The Folklore Of The Claddagh Ring

The design of the Emerald Claddagh Ring has a rich history stooped in Irish folklore. The story tells of a seafarer named Richard Joyce from Galway, who was captured by pirates and sold to the slave trade in North Africa. Here he learnt the art of the goldsmith, before returning to his beloved homeland upon release.

He designed and fashioned this beautiful ring, which features a pair of arms embracing the heart – a powerful symbol of love and compassion. The ring was worn as a wedding ring for centuries by residents in the fishing village of Claddagh.
